Fashion Magazine Highs & Lows, Limited Too Returns, How We Speak

Welcome to Pop Fashion Podcast! This week in hot topics - Rebekka Bay lands a job at Everlane, Limited Too plans to dominate the tween fashion market, and Women’s Running magazine delivers a fantastic cover. In other magazine news, rumors abound that Details and Self magazines are over (but independent style mags are making bank). Also, persons with disabilities may soon have more clothing options (about time!) and we deliver some heartbreaking / frustrating news about child labor in India.

Our main topic is about the way we speak! We take on the recent NPR story, “From Upspeak to Vocal Fry: Are We Policing Young Women’s Voices?” What’s the connection between our voices and business? Is it generational? And, should women try to train themselves to speak differently? Come hang out!

Oprah's Crop Top, MAC's Beauty Bars, Celebrating Small Successes

Welcome to another edition of Pop Fashion podcast! First, J.Crew is launching a series of lower-priced stores called J.Crew Mercantile. The Crew is set to compete with T.J.Maxx and Nordstrom Rack, but is this a good move for the company? In other news, Walmart is now charging vendors a fee to stock their items in stores and warehouses. Is this the beginning of the end for retail? In CRAZY fashion crime news, a drug bust in Alaska leads to a wedding dress runway show in Atlanta (this one is a doozy, guys!). Also, Oprah’s Magazine is in trouble after telling women they have to be thin to wear a crop top (#RocktheCrop), a bra company is making lingerie in colors that match all skin types, and MAC is opening baller beauty bars.

Our main topic is about celebrating small successes. Do you celebrate the little successes in life? Do you recognize them when they happen? Come hang out!

Donna Karan’s Exit, Fashion Law Degrees, Invest in Yourself

Welcome to another edition of Pop Fashion podcast! This week in hot topics - Donna Karan surprises everyone by leaving her fashion house, the MERS virus is slowing down retail in South Korea, and Adidas debuts a shoe made out of recycled ocean trash. Donald Trump makes moronic comments about immigrants, thus causing Macy’s to dump Trump. At least 12 people died and 33 were injured when a shoe factory collapsed in China. In other news, you can now get a Fashion Law degree from Fordham University, and the Army is rolling out a new camouflage pattern on uniforms.

Our main topic is about investing in yourself. Louis C.K. bet on himself by turning down a deal with Conan O’Brien in the 1990’s. Should we be investing in ourselves in the same way? Come hang out!

Lululemon’s Fashion Recall, Jimmy Choo Drama, Get Your Confidence Back

Welcome to another edition of Pop Fashion podcast! This week in fashion hot topics - Lululemon recalls 300,000 hoodies due to drawstring injuries, a model protest at men’s fashion week results in the best quote ever by Rick Owens, and Marissa Webb’s first collection for Banana Republic was kinda “meh.” In other news, shopping has become a big deal during Ramadan (and fashion houses are taking note), the former co-founder of Jimmy Choo sent a cease and desist letter to her old company, and Justice tries a new retail tactic this summer. Additionally, Dov Charney continues to prove that he is made of snakes and a woman has a complete meltdown in Macy’s over the price of a handbag.

Our main topic this week is about confidence! How do you get your confidence back after a major setback? Is it possible to build confidence like a muscle? Come hang out!
